SPF (Sender Policy Framework)

DefinitionSPF is a DNS TXT record that lists the mail servers allowed to send email for a domain, so receivers can check whether a message came from an authorised server.

An SPF record starts with v=spf1, lists senders with mechanisms such as include and ip4, and ends with a rule for everything else, usually ~all or -all.

A domain may publish only one SPF record, and evaluating it may take no more than 10 DNS lookups. Breaking either rule makes SPF fail.
