Email blacklist (blocklist)

DefinitionAn email blacklist, or blocklist, is a database of IP addresses or domains observed sending spam, which mail servers query through DNS to decide whether to accept or filter incoming email.

IP blocklists list sending servers; domain blocklists list domains found in spam, including in links. Well-known lists include Spamhaus, SpamCop, Barracuda, SURBL and URIBL.

Listings usually follow spam-trap hits or complaints. Fix the cause, then request removal through the list's own site.
